About This Design

To a Mouse Gift Mug

To a Mouse Gift Mug

This Scottish-themed mug features the famous line from the poem, "To a Mouse," by Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns, the man who penned "Auld Lang Syne," the song sung the world over every New Year's Eve. Translated into English, the words on the mug mean that the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. A timely reminder never to assume, or take things for granted. In the poem, Rabbie ponders on the devastation he has caused to a field mouse after inadvertently destroying its cosy nest in the middle of winter while ploughing. In the poem Rabbie goes on to say, "I'm truly sorry Man's dominion Has broken Nature's social union," words which have particular relevance today. On either side of the poetry is a cameo portrait of Robert Burns, based on our interpretation of the famous painting of Scotland's favourite son by Alexander Naysmith. The mug would make a great gift for fans of the bard, lovers of great poetry, office managers, or friends and family with Scottish roots.

I loved designing this mug using images stored on Zazzle. Was able to choose the font for the name and uplaod a background for behind the name, and a fabulous image of a black and white horse. It came out beautifully well and I was well pleased.

An attractive good quality item. The recipient is delighted with it, liked the humorous caption and has put it into use straight away. Very clear design and print with good colour quality.
