Ad for Le Chat Noir Cafe, Paris, c.1896 Theophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859 – 1923) was a Swiss artist who became immersed in the avant-garde world of the Chat Noir Café after moving to Paris’ bohemian Montmartre section. In Paris, he created over 400 Art Nouveau illustrations, as well as advertisements and stylised nightclub posters, which often featured cats. I was very surprised by the quality of these coasters they are beautifully crafted, and the sunflower watercolour image is so sharp it really pops out at you, I really love these and will order some more as a gift. The colours are so vibrant and the glossy tops make the image really stand out, they are stunning, a lovely way to brighten up dark wood or any surface. 6 coasters is also the perfect amount.
