True self is non self card

True self is non self. I think about how we, along with everything, are all made from the same material. The self is both the tombstone and me. With stillness, I lose identification with thoughts of self. One of the recurring symbols in my work is the tomb which I sat next to when visiting Durham Cathedral. The memory of the stillness of the tomb often helps me to still my mind and triggers a feeling of connection with all things. It is the letting go of the ego and that which wants me to be unique. In the picture, the sun and moon are together in the tomb, symbolising no time and stillness. The orange figures have individual faces and are separated. They dwell in thoughts which are represented by the separate sun and the moon dividing them (and the obsession we have with time). I am the horizontal figure echoing the figure in the tomb. I have stillness and with it a feeling of being connected with all things. I am all the figures and have no individual face. This is how I feel when I think of the tomb and capture the stillness it symbolised.
