The arrowroot crest / Arrowroot is a ritual object used to summon the gods. People dance with arrowroot in hand. The chant 'Sasa, sasa' is referred to as 'sasagoe' (arrowroot voice) or 'kagura voice,' which is a voice used to call upon the gods. The hat represents a sign or symbol, indicating the presence of the gods. In the past, there was a group of people known as 'Kasanuibe,' who were tasked with making hats, a sacred profession as they created hats for the gods to inhabit. As such, they were part of the Imibe clan and closely associated with the Shinto priests. Generations of Kasanuibe served at many shrines, including the Ise Grand Shrine.
