Yoshitoshi TSUKIOKA was a Japanese painter. He was an ukiyo-e artist who worked from the end of the Edo period to the early Meiji period. His family name was Yoshioka, and later Tsukioka. His real name was Yonejirou. His pen names were Yoshitoshi IKKAISAI, Kaisai, Gyokusaburo, Sokatei, Shiei, and finally Yoshitoshi TAISO. Kyosai KAWANABE, Yoshiiku OCHIAI, and Yoshifuji UTAGAWA were among the fellow disciples who studied under Kuniyoshi UTAGAWA, and Yoshiiku OCHIAI was especially a good competitor who also worked for the competition. Many ukiyo-e artists, Japanese painters, and other painters have also become disciples of Yoshitoshi or his painting style
