Uncharted Waters POSTCARD

Uncharted Waters was created, at first, as a challenge to myself. Could I paint water moving? Could I create a scene, as though I was looking through the weeds? What would that look like? I did some colour pencil drawings of the fish, turtles, frogs and weeds that I had grown up swimming around. And that my kids wound up swimming around. I asked my son about how the accident and my brain injury had affected him and his life. And as I listened I got this picture in my mind. My three children and I were in this boat and the sea was stormy and raging. And then it was still. Some times we were all facing each other and giving each other comfort. And some times we were all looking out to sea, lost in a sea we had no idea how to navigate and a sea of loss and that was so powerful we could not stop it. At times the suffering we each went through, we went through it very much alone. And it struck me. And that is what inspired this painting.
