The Jesus fish symbol was a symbol used by the early church and early Christians. This symbol was chosen to represent Christ and his Miracles he preformed with the feeding of 5,000 with the Loaves and the Fishes. The Early Christians were persecuted and hunt by nearly all Governments and by the Roman Empire. Most People wrongly believed that the Christians were performing some type of Human sacrifice and therefore needed to be stopped and executed. Most Non-Christians had heard of the last supper and wrongly assumed that the Blood and Flesh of Christ was actually a Human sacrifice and since the Christian followers repeated the Last Supper at ever service, Non Christians believed that the early Christians were sacrificing children or Other People during the service. This total ignorance of the Christian Faith is laughable and unbelievable to Us of today but this lack of knowledge was very deadly 2,000 years ago to the first Christian Followers. In order to avoid the label of cannibal or murder and to avoid arrest and execution the early Christians had developed a secret sign that only True Followers of Christ would know and that was this symbol of the Fish. Many early Christians had this very symbol tattooed upon Their body in a hidden spot to prove their Faith if it was question, this was a very risky thing to do, because if aught and the Tattoo was found, then the Person could not deny Christ and many held Their Faith above their own Lives and took this risk because of the promise Christ had made of the after Life and Their utter Faith in Him. Today We an display this image without fear of persecution, but never forget the devotion of the Early Followers that became martyrs so this has a far richer and deeper meaning when you think of All of the Men and Women that struggled so dearly to ensure that Evil would not prevail..
