This is the view from the uninhabited island of Hevaaholhudhoo Island in Gaafu Dhaal Atoll, Maldives. The beautiful island nation of the Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean about 700 kilometres (430 miles) south-west of Sri Lanka. It is a double chain of 26 gorgeous coral atolls running through the Indian Ocean. Altogether the atolls of the Maldives comprise 1,194 low-lying islands dispersed over 90,000 square kilometres (35,000 square miles) of which a few hundred islands are inhabited, which leaves a lot to explore for any traveller to these beautiful shores.
