Vincent van Gogh - Two Cut Sunflowers Large Clock
Two Cut Sunflowers, painted in 1887 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Paris. Van Gogh painted four still lifes of cut sunflower heads in Paris before creating the later vase compositions in Arles. Here two large flowers lie horizontally and nearly fill the canvas, allowing him to study the rough seed heads, curling petals and complementary color contrasts at close range. These Paris experiments established the sunflower as a subject through which he could explore texture and powerful, simplified color.
