I always liked this painting but only recently got any information about it. The way I found out was this. I found a decent resolution of it and created a poster as large as I could with it then posted that online then did a picture search with that image and went through the results most which were different but similar images. ... most were other Madonna and Christ Child paintings. Then, I found this: Original was: Oil on canvas. Painted by Austrian Nazarene artist BARON CARL VON BLAAS THE ELDER (April 28, 1815 - March 19, 1894) SIGNED AND DATED ROM (ROME) 1847 Student of Venice Academy 1832 - 1837. "AND IN HIM SHALL ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH BE BLESSED" English translation from Latin title taken from the Bible (Psalm 72:17 or Genesis 22:18 ... The latter a promise made to Abraham. The former a song from David to his son Solomon ... with hints of a Messianic prophecy. What I see in the Latin: "BENEDI CENTUR IN IPSO OMNES TRIBUS TERRAE".
