WABI SABI Mug
Wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a traditional Japanese aesthetic and philosophical concept that centres on finding beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity. Rather than striving for flawless perfection, it teaches us to appreciate the authentic, weathered, and incomplete nature of life and objects.
The concept is a combination of two distinct Japanese words that work together to form a single worldview:
Wabi: Beauty in Simplicity
• Meaning: Refers to rustic simplicity, quietness, and humility.
• Application: It values an uncluttered, understated lifestyle that is stripped of all artificiality. It embraces the beauty of natural, unrefined materials and textures.
Sabi: The Passage of Time
• Meaning: Refers to the beauty and character that comes with age, wear, and the natural cycle of growth and decay.
• Application: It is the appreciation of the impermanence of all things. For example, the faded colour of an old linen cloth, the tarnish on antique silverware, or the cracks in a handmade ceramic bowl.
How It Translates to Daily Life
• Embracing Flaws: the broken plate logo: Instead of throwing away a broken plate, the Japanese art of kintsugi highlights the cracks by mending them with gold, turning the defect into a beautiful, unique feature.
• Authenticity: It is the "antidote to perfectionism". It allows you to appreciate a blurry, unedited photograph, a handmade object with slight asymmetries, or your own personal growth and experiences over time.
• Mindfulness: It is a gentle reminder to slow down, disconnect from the obsession with shiny new things, and value the quiet, often overlooked details of our everyday surroundings.
Kintsugi (pronounced kin-tsoo-gee) is the centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the cracks with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Literally translating to "golden joinery" or "golden repair", the technique highlights breakage rather than hiding it.
As a profound cultural philosophy, kintsugi treats the mending of an item as part of its history, rather than something to disguise. It teaches us several key lessons:
• Embracing Imperfection: Rooted in the wabi-sabi worldview, it finds beauty in the transience and flaws of natural objects.
• Celebrating Scars: Just as broken pottery is made whole and unique, the philosophy suggests human scars, trauma, and hardships shape our character and should be honoured.
• Resilience: Repaired pieces are seen as even more beautiful, valuable, and resilient than the original, unbroken items.

Great mug which I customised for myself using my photo library. I unfortunately broke the handle of my first mug. As my previous order was kept in history of orders I was able just to reorder without having to customise the mug again, & so was able to order exactly the same mug as a replacement. The customisation turned out exactly as I requested, the prints & colours crisp & clear & true to the originals

I love this mug, I designed it for myself (the only thing wrong is the pink color in the print: it's darker than the preview).
The inside color is perfect and also the print has a high quality finissage. colors are a bit Darker, so my pink heart and logo aren't like the preview.
