Eight member countries of the Warsaw Pact pledged the mutual defence of any member who would be attacked. Members of the Warsaw Pact were the People's Republic of Albania, People's Republic of Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia (Czechoslovak Republic), East Germany (German Democratic Republic), People's Republic of Hungary, People's Republic of Poland, People's Republic of Romania, and the Soviet Union (USSR).
