Ghost town Centrailia PA was a coal mining town.
In 1962 the Fire Department burned the trash in the town dump, an abandoned open pit coal mine.
A vain of unmined sub-grade coal caught fire. And has been burning under the town ever since.
The town was bulldozed and the Fire Department disbanded decades ago.
