About

To commemorate the Civil War Sesquicentennial; the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War e-Archives will feature for first time in 150 years, images and products inspired by the Civil War collection of Elizabeth L. Cogswell Dixon and her son in-law, Dr. James Clarke Welling. Both were witness to events that moved the dial of history – Elizabeth Dixon, a close friend of Mary Lincoln, witnessed the death of President Lincoln and James C. Welling, as editor of the National Intelligencer, published Lincoln’s letter to Horace Greeley.
