About
As you can see below, Homer has a lot to be proud of in terms of its history, its architecture and the role Homer residents have played in social reform movements, innovation, and President Lincoln's presidency. (You can read more about that below.)
Homer's Main Street, with its New England style Village Green, is in the heart of the historic district with more than 220 architectural gems on the National Historic Register, some of which date back to the colonial era. Most are private residences but the commercial district is also historic. It includes the Barber/Keator Opera house, which now needs restoration but, in its heyday, boasted appearances by Mark Twain, Eva Tanguay, Will Rogers, and others.
Many of these sites are in dire need of preservation -- and we stand to lose more than just the buildings -- they hold a lot of history, a heritage, and civic pride.
This shop was set up to raise funds to help not-for-profit societies and organizations do the important work of education, documentation and preservation.
